Not in the mood for sex: Can I blame it on the dishes?

Sex is the last thing on my mind before a date, and that’s not cool

I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading recently on the differences in sexual response among people. Although it is a generalization, differences in sexual response generally align with genders. Men tend to be able to get in the mood — that is think about sex, want sex, and get sexually turned on — really easily. My husband was just telling me that he has sexual fantasies while driving the car home from work. Stuck in rush hour traffic and thinking about sex… can you even imagine?

Women on the other hand, and I’m among this group, tend to have more brakes in place for getting into a sexual mood — sexual desire and arousal in women is generally much more sensitive to environment, mental headspace, time, temperature, hormones, etc. Let me tell you, a sexual thought has never ever crossed my mind during rush hour traffic!

The mental headspace thing is huge for me. Basically, it doesn’t take much to distract me away from sexual thoughts. Over the years, and especially since I had kids, I have not had sex on my mind. There are simply too many things going on in my life to allow even a few minutes of daydreaming.
